If you are expecting to find steps to deal with your registration system, this sharing is not for you. Hold on! Are you about to leave? Keep reading and gain more valuable advices for your registration process, I bet you won’t regret!
Below are some of my highlights you should take into consideration before making any registration decision. Let’s go!
- Get used to my registration system
I am in Douglas College and my friend is going to BCIT. How about you? I mean, each university or college has its own registration system that we need to get familiar before performing any registration action.
On my first registration experience, I simply went to my college’s website and find instructions there. There are many ways your college will assist you, either via pdf file or training sessions. Come on, be active!
- Get to know my expectation
Personally, I took a step back to plan for my upcoming semester. I beside wanted to distribute proper time for classes, assignments and projects, I also planned to leave vacant hours for works, exercising or simply relaxing.
For me, I prefer having from one to two absolutely free days for other arising things like team works, working, housework etc. Yet, I also strived to spend at least 30 minutes a day for exercising. Therefore, I listed out what I wanted so that I could seriously make my schedule accordingly.
- Get to know pre-emptive fixed schedule
There are some activities that have been fixed before your new semester such as working time, gym classes etc. Therefore, I filled out my schedule with these timetables.
Doing this also helped me have an overall look at my time distribution and estimate the workloads for those activities. Due to my expectation for a balance life, I could expect to have around three courses per semester, so that I could manage both college works and living works.
- Find what best for me
Accordingly, I focused my searching for courses that suit rooms which I made available on my schedule. Trying to avoid weekend, too early or late classes, and two adjacent high-level classes were my intentions for previous semester.
In addition to the schedule matching, I also looked at courses workloads to make decisions. Honestly, I didn’t rely too much on reviews for my course selection. Rather than that, I got to know about the course descriptions to gauge the level of difficulty of course. Therefore, my best mix and match will be one hard course, one moderate course and one breathable one. Predecessors were also one of my reference channels to consider.
- Conflict – Consider – Sacrifice
Of course, things were not always as we expected. There will always be conflicts which force us to abandon one of those. For courses that I prefer, I didn’t have room for them. Likewise, for courses that fit my schedule, I didn’t like them much.
This requires your flexibility to grade the priority. Eventually, I ended up with schedule matching rather than preference, because I believed everything has its own good aspects. Nevertheless, no matter what the course was, I still can guarantee my basic expectation was met: life balance.
How do you feel about my experience, what about yours?
